Finally, a Philadelphia sports champion!!

(Photo by Doug Benc/Getty Images North America)
Okay, so it's just Arena Football, but the Philadelphia Soul have won Arena Bowl XXII over the San Jose SaberCats 59-56. I am not going to pretend like I watch Arena Football or really know anything about the team, but it's nice to see Ron Jaworski and Jon Bon Jovi bring a champion to our city.

The Soul held off a late charge by the SaberCats to knock off the defending champs. Hopefully you had quarterback Matt D'Orazio in your fantasy arena football league because he put up 302 passing yards and threw for 7 touchdowns and ran in another on his own. He was awarded with the Arena Bowl MVP award.

Congratulations, SOUL!

sure they won, but at the same time its hard for me to classify this as a major championship for the city. i always expected one of the the big four (sixers, eagles, flyers or phillies) to win. this is like when the wings won for all those years, i just can't notice this as a parade-worthy victory.

Definitely agree with you. The Philadelphia sports title drought continues, but it's still nice when any Philly team wins something.

We went to our first Soul game this past season, it was a lot of fun, similar in nature to a Wings game - just a lot of action during the game and also during time outs, etc. We followed their progress since then and caught the 2nd half yesterday. We were worried they were not going to pull out a victory. Very similar to the other Philly sports teams, can never make it easy and have you on the edge of your seat until the very end. It was a lot of fun! Glad they won!!
