The Eagles learned today that they will receive 3 extra draft picks for the 2008 draft. They are compensatory picks that the Eagles are given because they lost players in last years' free agency period, like Jeff Garcia and Donte Stallworth. One of the picks will be at the end of the 4th, and the other two will be at the end of the 6th round.
Several other NFL teams were also given compensatory picks. The Ravens and Bengals both received four extra picks, the most of any team. The highest pick that can be awarded is at the end of the third round, and the Redskins, Bengals, Falcons and Ravens all earned one.
This gives the Eagles a total of 12 picks in the upcoming draft. Even a team with their uneven history of drafting should manage to find a few solid contributing players with that many selections. Here is a breakdown of their picks by round:
Round 1: 19
Round 2: 49
Round 3: 80
Round 4: 115, 131
Round 5: 152
Round 6: 184, 191, 200, 203
Round 7: 224, 230
