Flyers sign Max Talbot to 5 year contract

We stole another one from you, Pittsburgh! After taking Jaromir Jagr away from the Penguins earlier in the day, the Flyers announced they have signed former Stanley Cup hero, Max Talbot, to a 5 year, 9 million dollar contract.

Talbot is a high energy guy and is a solid penalty killer. He's one of those guys that fans love as he plays the game with passion and intensity. No, he won't score a ton of points, but he will hit a few people and play solid defense. Look for him to slide nicely into the 3rd line center role, though he can also play the wing.

At under 2 million dollars a year, Talbot is a great signing. While 5 years seems like a lengthy contract for a guy with minimal skills, Talbot is just 27 and is a perfect fit for his role.

In other free agency news, the Flyers have also signed defenseman Andreas Lilja to a one year deal. Lilja will be the 6th or 7th d-man and take the place of Sean O'Donnell, who signed with the Blackhawks today. He's 35 and is a stay at home defenseman with no offensive skills.

Why on earth should Flyers fans be happy about this signing? Talbot's a hated (by Flyers fans) cheapshotting douchebag and now you've locked him in for 5 years. Yeah, good luck with that.
