Flyers sign Jaromir Jagr to one year contract

This will certainly go down as the craziest Flyers offseason in quite some time. Start with the dealing of two franchise players, mix in a little Steven Stamkos insanity and then add in this lunacy: the Flyers have signed Jaromir Jagr to a one year contract reportedly worth 3.3 million dollars. Yes, you read that right, 39 year old former Penguin and Ranger, Jaromir Jagr, has joined the Flyers.

Jagr is a legendary scorer, having scored 646 goals in his career, but he hasn't played in the NHL since 2008. He has continued to skate in the KHL, however, and has been productive, averaging nearly a point per game in a league that is somewhat equivalent to the AHL. While he is old and hardly the player he once was, he should be able to contribute offensively, especially on the power play.

3.3 million seems a little steep for Jagr but the Flyers must feel he's worth the gamble. While he comes with plenty of baggage, he also comes with plenty of skill. At first glance, I'd say the Flyers paid too much but we'll have to wait and see how he looks back on the NHL ice. Should he be able to contribute 25 goals and spark a sagging power play, he is well worth the money.

With NHL free agency under way, one can only guess what else the Flyers have in store. This has been one insane offseason.
