The Phillies will be adding at least one former Met to their organization this July as Aaron Heilman has signed a minor league contract with the team. Heilman was recently released by the Diamondbacks after putting up a 6.88 ERA this season in 32 appearances. Expect Heilman to remain in the minors unless he somehow figures out how to be an effective reliever again.
Heilman was a Met for 6 seasons earlier in the decade and was a quality reliever. At age 32, the Phillies aren't counting on him to be what he once was but he's worth taking a flier on. Best case scenario is that he puts up great numbers at AAA and then replaces Danys Baez on the major league roster down the stretch.
