In a somewhat surprising move, the Flyers have released veteran winger Bill Guerin from his tryout contract. Guerin, who almost seemed like a lock to make the team after Ian Laperriere was lost for the season, didn't do enough this preseason to distinguish himself from the younger, cheaper options the Flyers had at forward. His release opens the door for Andreas Nodl and/or Ben Holmstrom to make the team.
This could be the end of the road for Guerin, who at age 39, looks like he has lost a step or two. Perhaps it was just his infected elbow, but Guerin never seemed to mesh with the Flyers, who were hoping he could be a possible power play contributor. Perhaps another team will take a shot at the 18 year NHL veteran, hoping he will still be good for 20 goals.
