Phillies put up 20 spot on the Rockies

As the weather starts to heat up, we knew that the Phillies offense would start lighting up the scoreboard, but no one expected this. On Sunday the Phillies scored 15 against the Astros, today they managed to out-do themselves and beat the Rockies 20-5.

For the second day in a row, the offense more than made up for a slow start by a starting pitcher. Jamie Moyer gave up a 3-run homer in the first inning to Ryan Spilborghs but settled down from there, fanning a season-high seven batters in seven innings.

Chase Utley belted a 3-run homer of his own in the bottom of the first to tie the game but the Phils didn't really get going until the 4th inning when they put up 6 runs. They took an inning off and then put up 6 more in the 6th, followed by 4 more in the 8th just for good measure. Here is the Phillies box score for the game:

As you can tell, every Phillie starter got in on the action except for Pat Burrell who went 0 for 4. Utley managed a career-high 6 RBIs and Chris Coste also homered on the night.

The 20 runs put up by the Phillies was their most since July 3, 1999 when they beat the Cubs 21-8. I guess this gives the Phils some measure of revenge to do this to the team that swept them in the playoffs last year, but the Rockies are hardly the same team that made it to the World Series. They have a slew of injuries, including one that has shelved slugger Matt Holliday, and they are currently 11 games under .500.

So that's 35 runs in two games. I don't care how bad the pitching is, even the Phillies will keep winning if they keep posting ridiculous numbers like that.
